About Us
The Tourist Development Tax (TDT) Department operating under the Walton County Clerk of Court & County Comptroller is responsible for the collection & enforcement of the Walton County TDT on short-term rentals (STRs) for both tourist tax districts within the county. As such, the department’s main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- to enforce collection & remittance of the TDT, in compliance with FL Statute 125 as well as Walton County Ordinances 91-12 & 21-01;
- to collect back tax, penalty & interest from an owner, regardless of whether the owner had properly collected the tax from their guests or received those funds from the management company used to secure the stays in accordance with FL Statute 212; &
- to maintain an accurate tax database of all Walton County STR operators for compliance, enforcement, & reporting purposes.

Our Tourist Development Tax office is located at the South Walton Courthouse Annex at the mailing address provided below. We are available from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Central Time, Monday through Friday.
